Bambarakanda Waterfalls is the highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and is located in the Badulla District of the Uva Province. The waterfall has a height of 863 feet and is situated in a scenic location surrounded by hills and forests. The name Bambarakanda comes from the Sinhala words “Bambara” which means “bees” and “Kanda” which means “mountain”, referring to the surrounding mountains where bees are abundant. The waterfall is fed by the Kuda Oya River, which flows down from the Horton Plains National Park.
To reach Bambarakanda Waterfalls, one has to travel from Haputale to Kalupahana, which is about 22 km away. The last 10 km is a bumpy road that is not suitable for small cars, and visitors usually travel by a hired jeep or a tuk tuk. There is also a small parking area near the waterfall where visitors can park their vehicles.
Bambarakanda Waterfalls is a popular tourist attraction in Sri Lanka, especially for those who love nature and adventure. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pool at the base of the waterfall, or take a hike to the top of the waterfall for a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. The best time to visit the waterfall is during the monsoon season, which is from October to March, when the waterfall is at its fullest and most spectacular.
