Samadhi Buddha Statue

In the heart of the ancient city of Anuradhapura one of Sri Lanka’s most sacred sites, stands the world famous Samadhi Buddha Statue. This remarkable stone sculpture is admired not only for its artistic beauty but also for the deep sense of peace it reflects.

The Samadhi Buddha shows Lord Buddha in the Dhyana Mudra the posture of meditation. His hands are gently placed on his lap and his eyes are half closed in calm concentration. This position represents the moment of enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. Carved from granite during the 4 th century the statue is 7 feet tall and is considered one of the finest examples of ancient Sri Lankan craftsmanship.
