Lankaramaya Anuradhapura
Lankaramaya was built by King Valagamba. It is one of the eight sacred places in Anuradhapura, known as “Atamasthanaya” which every Buddhist pilgrim wishes to visit. Though not as large or crowded as some of the other famous stupas, this sacred site offers a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere for visitors who seek a glimpse into the island’s early history.
The stupa you see today has a simple yet beautiful circular design, standing on a raised terrace. Although the original stone pillars that once surrounded it now remain as ruins, they reveal that there was once a Watadageya (Circular Relic House) built around the stupa.
