Best 5 Waterfalls to Visit in the Dry Season in Sri Lanka

Blue Whales

Sri Lanka is famous for its lush forests, rivers, and stunning waterfalls. But many travelers worry that waterfalls may dry up during the sunny season. The good news is several waterfalls in Sri Lanka remain beautiful even in the dry months, thanks to their strong water sources and natural flow.

If you’re planning a Sri Lanka holiday during the dry season (May to September) here are the best waterfalls to visit.

Bambarakanda Falls

Standing at 263 meters, Bambarakanda is the tallest waterfall in the country. Even in the dry season, a beautiful stream flows down the rock face, creating a dramatic view.

Ravana Falls

Located right next to the Ella main road, this waterfall is a popular stop for travelers. Ravana Falls does reduce slightly in the dry season, but it never fully dries up thanks to continuous water from the Ravana cave streams.

Dunhinda Falls

One of the most iconic waterfalls in Sri Lanka, Dunhinda Falls maintains a steady water volume even during drier months. The waterfall gets its name from the “misty smoke” created as the water crashes down from 64 meters.

Diyaluma Falls

Diyaluma Falls is one of Sri Lanka’s most loved waterfalls, especially for its upper-level natural infinity pools. Even during the dry season, water continues to flow, making it perfect for a refreshing dip.

 Laxapana Falls

Laxapana Falls is a hidden gem located deep in the hill country. With a height of 126 meters, it remains one of the most powerful waterfalls even during the dry months.
