All Major Sri Lankan Tourist Sites Are Open After the Recent Cyclone 

Sri Lanka experienced a brief period of challenging weather due to a cyclone a few days ago. Thanks to fast recovery efforts and the island’s strong tourism infrastructure, the situation has now improved & Sri Lanka is fully ready to welcome travelers again. 

Recent updates from the Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Central Cultural Fund confirm that most marine attractions, national parks, historic cities and UNESCO World Heritage Sites are open for visitors.

Marine Tourism Sites: Open & Safe to Visit 

According to the official update issued on 03 December 2025, Sri Lanka’s most popular marine destinations are operating normally. Conditions are suitable for ocean activities, including whale watching and snorkeling.

• Hikkaduwa Coral National Park 

National Parks: Almost All Fully Open 

As of 03 December 2025, most national parks across Sri Lanka are open for wildlife safaris. Travelers can enjoy elephant gatherings, leopard sightings and birdwatching safely.

Cultural & Heritage Sites: Fully Open 

In an update released on 04 December 2025, the Central Cultural Fund announced that all UNESCO World Heritage Sites and historic attractions under their management are open for visitors. 

This includes:

• Anuradhapura 

• Polonnaruwa 

• Kandy 

• Galle 

Major Historic Sites 

• Jaffna 

• Colombo 

• Negombo 

• Bentota 

• Matara 

• Trincomalee 

Museums and cultural monuments are functioning normally, offering travelers a smooth and safe experience.
